The quickest method for registration is through your ACT Web Account online. Alternatively, you can acquire a registration packet from your high school guidance office. Please note that if you’re taking the ACT outside of the United States, make sure to register via ACT’s International portal.

The ACT registration process offers the convenience of online or mail registration, with online registration being the quicker and more straightforward option. Here is a step-by-step guide for online ACT registration:

Step 1: Create a My ACT Account

ACT Registration

Visit the ACT website

  • (https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act.html) and click on “Create an Account”.
  • Navigate through the account creation process by entering your contact information, choosing a username and password, and agreeing to the terms and conditions.
  • Upon completion, access your MyACT dashboard to register for the test, view scores, and send score reports to colleges.

Step 2: Choose Your Test Date and Location

  • On your MyACT dashboard, select “Register for the ACT”.
  • Specify whether you will be testing in or outside the United States.
  • Choose your preferred test date and location, utilizing the search function for test centers by zip code or city.
  • Register early, as test dates fill up quickly. Check the ACT website for upcoming test dates.
  • Once you’ve created your account, proceed to registration by clicking the “Register” button and responding to the subsequent questions. Provide truthful information regarding your testing date, schedule, and location.
  • Additionally, answer voluntary questions about your handedness, religious affiliations, disabilities (if any), and family background. Share details about your educational background, including schools attended and specific courses taken. Outline your college plans, such as preferred schools, programs or majors, extra-curricular activities, and future career aspirations.
  • Following these responses, you will be prompted to upload a current headshot within the specified size. This, along with accurate ID information, serves as the basis for ACT personnel to confirm your identity and prevent unauthorized test-taking. Ensure to complete this important and required step; skipping it is not advisable.

Step 3: Decide Whether to Take the Writing Test

  • While the ACT Writing test is optional, some colleges may require it.
  • Confirm Writing test requirements with your prospective colleges.
  • Select your preference to take the ACT with or without the Writing test during registration.

Step 4: Register for Accommodations (if needed)

  • If you have a documented disability requiring accommodations, register for them through the ACT website.
  • Provide documentation of your disability from a qualified professional.
  • After registration, contact ACT to confirm your registration and discuss specific needs.

Step 5: Pay the Registration Fee

  • The ACT registration fee is $166.50 with the Writing test and $150 without.
  • Use a credit or debit card for payment.
  • Upon payment, receive confirmation of your registration.
  • After furnishing the details mentioned above, proceed to settle the ACT fees. Subsequently, you will receive a voucher number; enter this number in the designated field. Click “Submit”, and your ACT registration is complete! You are now officially enrolled for the ACT.
  • One essential reminder: Be sure to print out your registration ticket. This document is required for presentation at the testing center on your ACT date.

Step 6: Send Score Reports (Optional)

  • When registering, send ACT scores to up to four colleges for free.
  • For additional colleges, choose to send scores electronically or by mail for a fee.
