Importance of IGCSE Combined Science
Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science has a comprehensive syllabus, which helps the students to recognize the usefulness of scientific methods in their everyday life. They develop relevant attitudes and understand their society better.

In the curriculum of IGCSE Combined Science, the students are required to study all three major sections of Science – Biology (B1- B12), Chemistry (C1 – C12), and Physics (P1 – P6).
Structure of IGCSE Combined Science
The Cambridge IGCSE Combined Science divides its students into two categories, which are Core Candidates and Extended Candidates.
Both these categories differ in terms of the highest grades and papers to be taken. These distinctions are mentioned hereunder:
Papers to be taken:
- The Core candidates are required to take Paper 1 (MCQ based), Paper 3 (Theory), and either Paper 5 (Practical test) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical)
- Whereas, the extended candidates are required to take Paper 2 (MCQ based), Paper 4 (Theory), and either Paper 5 (Practical test) or Paper 6 (Alternative to Practical)
- Hence, it can be observed that all the IGCSE Combined Science candidates are required to take at least three papers.
*It must be noted that the curriculum of IGCSE Combined Science is a combination of three different sections of science – Biology, Physics, and Chemistry. The students are required to study all of them
However, the schools can offer and teach these three sections individually as well.
The Grading Rules
Grading rules applicable for all candidates:
- The Cambridge IGCSE assigns Grades to its students that range from “A – The Highest” to “G – The Lowest”
- If the performance of a student is not enough to even assign him or her a grade of "G", then such students are “Ungraded”, which is reported on the statement of results
- The letter “Q" appearing on the statement of results - stands for PENDING
- The letter “X" appearing on the statement of results - stands for NO RESULT
Grading rules applicable for all candidates:
- The core students can achieve the highest grade of only a "C"
- Whereas, the extended candidates can get Grade "A" to "C" which will depend upon their academic performance.
*The students who are willing to achieve the highest grades should opt for extended subject content, which has additional topics known as “supplements”. The supplement topics are in addition to the topics studied at the core level.
