Criterion A- Knowing and Understanding [25 Marks]

Instructions

  • The task is assigned to test Criterion A (Knowing and understanding).
  • You need to solve the respective questions correctly in order to reach the particular grade descriptor.

Task 1: Answer the Following Questions as Completely as Possible.

Q.1 Our universe consists variety of things in it, which are far beyond our imagination. Universcale lets you see and understand the relative size of the full range of known object in our universe. Where smallest thing is quarks having size of 10-18 m whereas largest thing is the oservable universe having approximate size of 1027 m. You can measure the relative sizes of objects arranged on a single scale shown in figure and grasp the sizes of things that you cannot compare side by side in the real world. Today’s electron microscopes and astronomical telescopes reveal objects that were invisible to people of the past.

(a) Interpret the scale given to estimate the size of the objects given below. [3]

(b) Classify the following according to their size using scale above and prefixes. [3]

(c) Define Magnification & Resolution. [2]

(d) Describe how you would make observations of each of the objects below using the scale shown above. [3]

Task.2: Answer the following questions as completely as possible.

Q.1 Light plays significant role in our day-to-day life. It carries energy which is required to most of creatures on earth. In plant the growth depends on the amount of sunlight received by them. Based on the above information answer the following questions.

How Light affects plant Growth?

Q.2 Interpret the picture given to Identify the right variables in process. [4]

  1. Independent Variable:
  2. Dependent Variable:
  3. Controlled Variables:
  4. Annotate the conclusion from the graph

Task.3: Answer the following questions as completely as possible.

Q1. A lorry with a mass moving with velocity carries a load of hot asphalt – a runny mixture of small stones and tar it accelerates as it moves through a certain distance in time ‘t’.

(a) Select the appropriate units and its type to complete the following table. [4]

Units:  m/s2, m/s, m, kg m/s
Type: Scalar, Vector

Sr no.QuantityUnitType:

1Acceleration
2Distance
3Momentum
4Velocity

(b) State the relationship between the following quantities. [3]

  1. Velocity, Acceleration and Time
  2. Mass, Velocity and Momentum

(C) Speed = Distance / Time

The Lorry travels from Mumbai –Pune which is 180 km in about 5 hr. Find the speed of the lorry in m/s unit. [3]
